Mask Up App

Mask Up App

Project type:  UI UX Design
Tools used:  Adobe XD
Role:  Davonna Struthers - UI UX Designer

Background

The Vancouver Hack Space Society (VHS) is a non-profit member-run, member-driven community workshop that offers its members space and tools to work on their projects.

As part of the changing COVID requirements, a tool was required to signal to occupants of the building whether masks were recommended or required, and until what time.

While another volunteer had already implemented the technical infrastructure, a well working frontend user interface was required.

Goal

The goal of this project was to provide the programmer with a working user interface that would serve both the technically minded as well as less tech savvy users.

Requirements

The implementation was mirrored after an existing tool that allows users to set the status of the building to open as seen on the Is VHS Open website. The so-called Space Clock allows users to set an end time, which in turn gets communicated to the website. Additional requirements included functionality to allow users to increase the time by set increments.

Implementation

Through iterative, interactive sessions with the programmer, we were quickly able to establish what would work and what would not. The process went from wireframe designs to an actual design (including colour settings) as it is implemented today.

The video demonstrates the app in action.  The image is of the screen that shows the status of the clock at the entrance of VHS.
